5 Tips to Keep Your Puzzles Safe (And Maintain Your Peace of Mind)

Let’s face it: puzzling is great… until someone decides to knock over your masterpiece. Whether it’s your cat, your child, or just your own clumsy self, there’s always something threatening your puzzle. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to safely store your puzzle so you don’t have to worry about “puzzle pieces mysteriously disappearing” all the time. Here are 5 tips to make your life (and your puzzle) easier!

1. Puzzle rolls: Because not everyone has room for a puzzle table

No place to display your puzzle? Enter the puzzle roll! The concept is simple: place your puzzle on the mat, roll it up, and voilà – safely stored.

It feels a bit like putting your puzzle in a sleeping bag. Nice and warm and protected from the elements. Be careful though: cheap is expensive, because some mats let the pieces slide (and that is not exactly zen).

2. Use a puzzle board with a cover plate (aka your puzzle's personal bodyguard)

If you’re serious about puzzles (and we know you are), then a puzzle board with a cover plate is an absolute must-have. This clever board provides a sturdy surface for all your puzzle adventures, and a safe place to protect your puzzle when you need to take a break.

The best part? You can just slide the board under your couch or bed and no one will know you’re hiding a 2,000-piece puzzle. Bonus: It also protects against cats who think puzzle pieces are treats.

Tip: Check out our oak puzzle board with cover plate – stylish, space-saving and so sturdy that even your curious four-legged friend can't tackle it.

3. Organize your puzzle pieces (and your life..)

Are you one of those people who always finds a corner piece missing, only to find it under the couch weeks later? Time to tackle that chaos syndrome. Use sorting bins to organize your pieces by color, shape, or category.

Pro tip: Those containers can also function as snack holders. The only risk? Accidentally eating a piece of a puzzle instead of a nut. But hey, you're not the first...

4. Put your puzzle high and dry (and safely away from cats and toddlers)

We all love our children and pets, but they all have one thing in common: they absolutely can't keep their hands off your puzzle. So make sure your puzzle isn't in a place where grabby little hands (or paws) can get to it.

Try a raised table or, even better, use a puzzle board with a cover. Cats may be known for their tenacity, but even they will give up if there’s a sturdy wooden board between them and your puzzle.

5. Save or frame your puzzle (because some puzzles deserve a spot on the wall)

Some puzzles are too good to put back in the box. Once you’re done, you can glue and frame your puzzle. Voilà, instant artwork! It’s the ultimate way to show off your puzzle-solving skills and create a conversation piece when you have company: “Oh this? Just a 2000 piece puzzle, nothing fancy.”
